3/17/2021 Update from the ISD 728 District Office
Information Regarding Prom 2021
March 17, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We know that prom is a memorable occasion for many of our students, and we are working tirelessly to ensure we can have an event that is safe and compliant with Department of Health regulations. The Department of Health has specific requirements for schools and athletics/activities, and additional requirements for hosting gatherings such as prom. School districts are required to follow guidance related to entertainment (see Entertainment and Meeting Venues / StaySafeMN) for events such as prom. These requirements include guidance related to social distancing, capacity, and access.
While there are many details to work out, we wanted to communicate what we know today as a result of the number of questions we have received from families.
We are excited to be able to provide a formal event for our students, even though it may look different than those in previous years. ISD 728 will be able to host prom in a modified fashion and remain compliant with Minnesota Department of Health guidance. More specifically, ISD 728 will be able to offer a scheduled, masked Grand March for students as well a dinner experience. The Grand March will be live streamed for parents and guests. Unfortunately, we are not able to allow parents and guests to participate in the Grand March as capacity restrictions will not allow it. After the Grand March, students will also be able to attend dinner at their building’s designated venue.
At this time, ISD 728 would not be able to comply with health guidelines if hosting an actual dance, and thus will not be able to include a dance experience this year. If Department of Health regulations change between now and the date of the event, we will adjust accordingly.
Additional information will be communicated from your respective high school administrators in the near future and as more information becomes available.
Dr. Daniel Bittman
