In-District Transfer & Open Enrollment
In-district transfer is a process that allows students who currently live in the ISD 728 community to request attendance at a school other than their neighborhood school; you must be a resident of ISD 728.
To apply, download the In-District Student Transfer Request Application and return the completed form to your student’s district-assigned school.
Please Note: Transfers will be subject to available space and limited to ensure enrollment balance among the schools.
Minnesota’s Open Enrollment Program allows students to apply to attend a public school outside of the district in which they reside. Most ISD 728 schools are available to students from outside the district through Minnesota’s open enrollment program. The application period is typically December 1 through January 15, but ISD 728 accepts open enrollment applications at any time. Applications are processed based on space available and as they are received. Students applying for the current year may be enrolled immediately if space is available. If space is not available in the requested school, students will be offered another choice within the district.
Once accepted for enrollment, the student does not have to reapply. Transportation is provided by the parent/guardian. To apply, download the Open Enrollment Application and return the completed form to the district office at 11500 193rd Ave NW, Elk River, MN 55330 or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Families that apply for open enrollment will receive notification from the district by February 15 or within 30 days of applying.
