    From the Principal

    by Gretchen Fisher

    Hello Families,

We are in the throes of an interesting winter!  I hope you are staying warm and enjoying the varied weather we are having!  Please take a look at ZeBest newsletter for lots of great information!

Our second trimester PBIS focus is on Respect for Others.  The skills we are reinforcing at school are below.  We know that positive reinforcement of these skills is essential for lifelong learning!  Thank you for partnering with us and supporting these skills with your child.

  • Cottew Motorsports partner with ZES!

Zimmerman Elementary School is involved with a mentoring program with competitive snowcross racers of Cottew Motorsports, from Elk River Extreme Motor Park. Shana Peterson has a connection with owners Jeff and Missy Cottew, who believe it is important for their members to leave a positive footprint on the world. This partnership started during the 2015-2016 school year, and has recently kicked off for 2016-2017 school year. Mentors come Tuesdays mornings, and rotate, providing support in many classrooms as well as one on one with students.

Last year, four mentors visited our school from December to March. This year two have returned, those racers are Cole and Mitchell. Cole Cottew was 14 when he started racing and is from Lake Nebagamon, WI. Mitchell Thelen was 10 when he started racing and is from Paynesville, MN. In the spring, Zimmerman Elementary looks forward to the racers bringing in all their gear and showing off their equipment for all students see! To keep up with Cottew Motorsports, check out their facebook page, where they live stream all national events.

  • From the Health Office

The Health Office is in need of gently used girl’s pants sizes 5-8. Donations may be left in the main office.

Students go outside every day for recess depending on the temperature. Please make sure they are dressed appropriately in all of their winter gear!

  • Independent Students

Teachers and Staff are trying their best to teach students to do some tasks independently.  Parents/guardians we are asking that you say your goodbyes at the front door and not walk your student to class.  If you need a little help with this transition please ask the ladies in the office or any of the staff in the commons area, they will be happy to assist.  On the occasion you do need to walk your student to their classroom, make sure to sign in and put on a visitor pass.
