I heard ZImmerman was promised a new High School, why don’t we have one?
School districts do not have the authority to make such promises, and must seek voter approval to build a school. On November 6, 2007 and per community recommendation, ISD 728 held an election and asked voters if they were willing to support an additional high school in Zimmerman. Resident voters opposed the new high school with 4,624 voters in favor and 7,915 voting no.
Currently, Zimmerman does not have the student enrollment to support an additional high school. However, the District does own land for a potential future high school if and when additional building is needed.

"I heard you have to be at the Sherburne County Government Center if you want to vote early."
This is only PARTLY true. Yes, if you want to vote early IN PERSON, you have to head over to the Sherburne County Government Center during business hours. This is for ALL ISD 728 residents - including those in Wright, Hennepin and Anoka counties.
However, you CAN vote from home - by voting absentee!
To vote by mail, apply to have an absentee ballot mailed to you. You do not need to be registered to apply.
1. Apply by Email, Mail or Fax
Request an absentee ballot application: call 763-765-4351 or visit www.isd728.org/AbsenteeBallot to download the application.
2. Return Application:
By mail: Sherburne County Government Center Auditor/Treasurer Department, 13880 Business Center Drive NW, Elk River, MN 55330.
By fax: 763-765-4400.

Once the county receives the application, the ballot materials will be mailed to you.
3. Return Ballot by Mail

You will need a witness when you vote and complete your ballot. The witness can be either a registered Minnesota voter or a notary.
Mail the ballot and forms back right away after you finish. Your ballot will not count if it is received after Election Day.
If you don’t think your ballot will be received in time using regular mail, you may choose to pay for an express delivery service.

"I heard that class sizes won't be reduced if the referendum passes."
If the referendum is approved, the increased funding would help the District maintain class sizes and prevent them from increasing. Class sizes often vary based on such things as the number of students in that grade level, student needs, building space, etc. Therefore some class sizes will be reduced. But because State funding is unpredictable, the District is unable to make guarantees as we watch funding cycles into the future. If the referendum is unsuccessful, class sizes will unfortunately increase and further reductions will need to be made to balance the budget.
