Marching into Springtime!
Spring is a very busy and important period of time at RMS. Our goal is to stay focused on academics as we finish the 3rd quarter strong, ending March 26th, and look ahead to the 4th and final quarter.
Parent/teacher conferences will occur Thursday, March 5th from 4:00-7:00 pm, coinciding with the RMS Book Fair which ends the morning of Friday, March 6th. Please prepare for conferences by accessing Parent Portal to view your student’s current grades. Students are encouraged to attend conferences, along with their parents, to receive meaningful feedback on their school performance.
In addition, March 19th is a special day for our music students. Students will be participating in the third annual RMS/RHS Spring Music Festival at the RHS PAC (Performing Arts Center). A highlight of this event is the opportunity for choir and band students from RMS and RHS to showcase their talents for current 5th grade students, helping them with their music selections for next school year.
Friday March 27th is a teacher workshop/staff development day, so school will not be in session. MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) testing will begin the following week. All grades will begin the MCA Reading tests on Monday, March 30th and the MCA Math tests on Monday, April 20th. In addition, Grade 8 students will be administered the MCA Science test starting on Monday, May 4th. Please encourage your students to get plenty of sleep and to eat healthy for peak performance.
As always, we value the partnership we have with parents and students. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Sprint to Cite Soleil Success
For the month of February, RMS participated in a shoe drive that benefitted Cite Soleil in Haiti. We collected 179 pairs of shoes which is enough to send Mr. Huss and Mr. Jean on the 12 minute run! The top three advisories were Ms. Larson (31), Mr. Kreuser (30) and Mrs. Massango (26).
Health Office Reminder
We’re in the middle of flu season and we’re also tracking available information about the emerging and quickly spreading coronavirus.
At ISD 728, we follow guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health. The available information about coronavirus suggests a low immediate health risk for the general public and the guidance at this point is to take the same precautions recommended for avoiding colds and flu.
Minnesota Department of Health advises people to:
- Stay home when they are sick
- Cover their cough
- Practice good hand washing
We reinforce these practices at school - for our students and staff - and invite you to do the same with students at home. If you have questions, feel free to contact your school health office.
Upcoming 7th Grade Field Trips
Our students will be attending field trips on May 18th, 19th and 20th during the school day. Be sure your student turns in the field trip permission slips and waivers to his/her English teacher as soon as possible. The fee for the 3-day field trip is posted on RevTrak. If you are interested in chaperoning, please indicate which day(s) when filling out the permission slip. Email your student's English teacher with questions: email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
Media Center NotesSponsor the RMS Book Club! The RMS Book Club is a co-curricular activity offered to all students in grades 6-8 through the Media Center. Book Club meets approximately 10 times a year over the lunch hours between November and April. This year's Book Club boasts 59 student members, plus 9 RMS staff who help facilitate our Book Club groups. Students self-select their small groups, the books they read (more than 100 choices!), and how fast they read them. Book Club is a big commitment so we celebrate our readers each April with an end of the year celebration. If you would like to sponsor our Book Club this year, follow this link. Donations will be used to purchase new book titles to add to our Book Club collection, purchase additional copies of our current titles, and help fund our end of the year celebration.I Love to Read Book BracketRogers Middle School students spent the month of February enjoying picture books nominated for the Star of the North book award, a student choice book award administered by the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards. Students were able to vote in each round via Schoology, and follow the progress on the wall outside the Media Center.Lights! Camera! Reading Has Action! The student Book Fair Committee has been hard at work preparing for the spring Scholastic Book Fair. The student committee chose the Fair's theme, created the decorations, games, and advertising, including a commercial that aired on the RMS Morning Show! The Book Fair will be open for shopping at RMS March 2nd-6th, including during evening conferences on Thursday, March 5th from 4-7pm.
