COVID-19 Health and Safety Precautions in Child Care

    What are the COVID-19 guidelines and expectations for EdVenture Club?

    MDH Screening Procedures: Site staff will greet you and your family at the entry door.  Parents are not allowed to enter the building beyond the screening point. Your child(ren) will have their temperature taken and the following questions will be asked at the time of arrival:

    • Does the child or anyone in the family have the following:
      • New onset or worsening cough OR shortness of breath OR at least two of the following symptoms: fever (100.4o F or higher); chills; muscle pain; headache; sore throat; new loss of taste or smell
      • If your child has a fever or you answer yes to any of the above, the child will not be allowed to attend and the child and siblings will not be allowed to attend for a minimum of 10 days (with the last 3 days being fever free).

    • If your child becomes sick while in our care, we will take the following precautions:
      • We will isolate your child
      • We will inform you or another parent to pick your child up

    • Face coverings:  Face coverings are required for all students attending the program at all times with the exception of when the children are outside, are exerting themselves and wearing a face covering interferes with their ability to breathe, and when they are eating or drinking (snack/lunch). Please provide your child with a face covering and ensure that it is properly cleaned between use.

    • We will be utilizing additional spaces in the building to keep group sizes down to no more than 15 (1 adult to 14 children) at a time and we will be supplying each child with their own supplies for use throughout the school year.

    • We will be cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, desks, chairs, surfaces, supplies, and all areas before and after each use.

    • Handwashing protocols will be encouraged and required for all staff and students (before and after entering new locations/rooms, before and after eating, and before and after bathroom use). MDH recommends washing hands for a minimum of 20 seconds and students will be monitored by staff to insure this is happening.

    • Social distancing protocols will be followed by increasing our spacing in each room, by maintaining small group sizes, and limiting mixing between groups.

    • Lunches/Water Bottles/Items from Home/Birthday Treats: Please plan to send a lunch with your child every day on full days. Please send a water bottle with your child as well.  Drinking fountains will not be available but filling stations will. If your child has a birthday, please let site staff know so that we can plan a COVID-19 friendly celebration in lieu of bringing birthday treats to the site to share.

    • Playground Use: We will be using the playground equipment by following these protocols:
      • We will require that students wash hands before they go onto the playground and when they return to the building.
      • Staff will bring Clorox wipes, disposable towels, hand sanitizer, and spray bottles ahead of students. Staff will wipe down high traffic areas (railings, slides, swing chains, etc.) before and after use. Spray cleaner will not be used when children are present.
      • Group sizes will be maintained: No more than 25 at a time
      • Staff will monitor students while using playground equipment and offer hand sanitizer during use.
      • Timing: Playground use will be restricted to no more than 20 minutes at a time to allow groups to rotate throughout the day.
