Hello RMS Families!
Welcome to a great start of the 2021-22 school year. This month my message will share updates around our school size, our Royal Way program, loss of a staff member, and a goal of increasing student voice at RMS.
RMS is home to approximately 750 students in grades 6, 7, and 8, with 8th grade being our largest grade. Next year we will be adding 5th grade students from Rogers and Hassan Elementary Schools to RMS. We have many details to plan and information to gather; watch for more information if you also have a student that will be in our first 5th grade class at RMS!
Here at RMS we use the Royal Way with the three R’s of Ready, Responsible and Respectful for our positive behavior system. Students were reminded of these expectations in classes last week and this week. Part of the program is providing positive reinforcement when students are showing up using the Royal Way. Ask your student if they have seen a Royal Way Ticket yet. We need your help to keep the program running. Please consider dropping off gift cards for local businesses that we can use on our prize list. Students also like Royal Gear, any clothing with Royals logos, as prizes. The RHS DECA Shoppe has items or local businesses.
On August 1st, RMS lost one of our staff members. Luci Sagehorn was a valued member of our RMS family. Communication was sent out at that time but I wanted to let you know that we offered for students to make or sign a card in advisory last week for the family. If you or your student would like to send in a card for the family, please deliver it to the office before the end of September so we can get it to the family. Also, some have asked if they can donate items for the program that Ms. Sagehorn led at RMS. The program could use art supplies or art kits for students as a way to work through their grief or other parts of life. Thank you for considering and those items can be brought to the reception office.
Also this year, our staff leadership team is looking at ways to increase student voice at RMS. We are going to have representatives from each advisory group participate in a monthly principals feedback group and have student groups that are already formed provide feedback to the staff from their groups. I look forward to having conversations with students as they always have a lot to say.
Thank you for sharing your students with us at RMS. We take pride in our school and our students and will be asking for your feedback soon too.

Attendance Office Updates
We are excited to give families another option for reporting school absences in addition to the phone line. You can now email the attendance office at RMS.email@example.com or call 763-241-3555. Please include the following information in the message:
- Student first/last name (and spelling if calling)
- Student grade
- Reason for the absence
- Name of person reporting absence (must be a parent/guardian)
Early Pick Up Procedure
- The parent/guardian should send a note with their student including the following information:
Student first/last name and grade.
Time the student needs to meet you in the reception office
Date and reason for the early pick up
Name of person picking the student up
- The student should bring the note to the reception office before the start of school for a pass to leave class early. This will prevent delays in student pick up.
- Meet your student in the reception office.
- Please see the Student Handbook for more information on the Attendance Policy.
Parking Lot Reminders
The RMS parking lot is a busy place during drop off and pick up times. Please help staff keep all our students safe by following the map below. Students should wait to exit vehicles until they reach the official drop off zone. Drivers should pull all the way to the front as indicated by staff members. This will make the process more efficient for everyone. Thanks for your help!
