APRIL 2022

  •

Spring is here! That means it is time to celebrate many things, including our students and staff.

I have two requests of you:

    1. We are in need of $5.00 gift cards for local businesses for prizes for students for our Royal Way drawing. Please drop these off anytime or send with your student.
    2. Teacher/Staff Appreciation is the first week of May. We are asking for your help to help staff feel appreciated by stocking the lounge with snacks and drinks. Please see the link below to sign up. If you would like to contribute something else, please email me.

Thanks for sharing your student with us!

    Regards,
    Dr. Nicole Rittenour
    Principal

    Let's Go To Florida!

    Dear Parents,

I would like to “officially” announce that Lisa Berry-Koeppen and Annie Allen are planning another educational trip to Florida, June 14-18, 2023. The program is called Habitat: H2O and I would like to invite all interested 6th and 7th grade students at RMS and PVMS to join us!

Lisa Berry-Koeppen has been teaching in the ISD728 district for 28 years as a K-4 grade teacher and a 7/8th grade science teacher.  She has participated in 10 Worldstrides trips.  Annie Allen has had various roles in the ISD728 district.  She is currently a media specialist and has been in this role for 8 years at RMS. Annie is excited for her first Worldstrides trip.

More information will be distributed in April to students and an informational meeting will be held on April 13th, 2022, 7pm in the RMS Media Center (please mark your calendars!).  In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about this amazing opportunity, I encourage you to watch WorldStrides’ online video and view the sample itinerary by clicking the link Habitat H2O.

If you don’t want to wait until the meeting to sign your child up for the trip, you don’t have to!  There are two ways you can register your child NOW:
    1. Online – go to www.worldstrides.org/register.  Use Trip ID#202261 For Rogers Middle School and Trip ID #202401 For Prairie View Middle School 2. By phone – contact WorldStrides’ Customer Service team at 1-800-468-5899.

Don’t Miss Out! If you have financial concerns, WorldStrides has scholarship assistance available for eligible students and some great fundraising ideas to help you (check out the new eCards!).

I hope you are having a great school year and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

    Sincerely,
    Ms. Lisa Berry-Koeppen

    Chromebook Care

Please remember that it is extremely important for chromebook cases to be used at all times. More and more students are visiting the Chrome Depot with technology issues and/or damage and are not using their cases. One of our goals is to help students and families avoid unnecessary fees when chromebooks are damaged. The cases actually work very well to prevent damage.

    • If cases are NOT being used, the protection plans are voided and replacement costs will be assigned for damages. Total replacement costs of the chromebook are about $200.00.
    • All students were given a case with their chromebook.
    • If your case is broken, go to the Chrome Depot. Depending on the issue, a new case will be issued and a fee may be assigned for $15.00.
    • Students should also have their names on their chromebook. This will help avoid chromebooks being picked up by another student by accident.
    • After Spring Break, advisory teachers will check for cases and names on the chromebooks. Students not using a case will have another reminder and parents/guardians will be notified. Students are expected to follow this rule.
    • All 8th grade students will be taking their current chromebooks with them to RHS. Students need to treat their devices as such and keep them in good condition.

    Career Exploration Events

8th grade students, is it too early to start career exploration?  No!  Here are a few offerings this spring and summer that would allow your student to check out careers that they may be interested in learning more about!

    Health Office Reminders

2022-23 School Year: Sports Physicals & Immunizations

In preparing for the 2022-2023 school year, it is important to complete the appropriate medical information for your child as soon as possible.  Immunization and sport physical dates that the school has received for your child are posted on Parent Portal. Immunization requirements reflect the current school year only which are posted on July 1st of each school year.

Please note: Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines are required for students beginning 7th grade, and a Meningococcal booster is required for 12th graders.

For requirements and appropriate forms to be completed by your medical provider, please refer to the Health Services webpage.

    COVID Testing Kits still available

Testing Kits Available to Take Home if Interested for ALL family members:

MDH, MDE & CDC asked school districts to develop and implement a COVID-19 testing plan that fits their school community. ISD 728 requested & offered take-home Antigen tests for students that are interested. The district continues to have an abundant supply of test kits and would like to offer these kits for ALL family members.

Interested families can request test kits from their student’s building health office to take home for their testing purposes and convenience.
