ISD 728 Names 2026 Officers as Nordos Named Board Chair

The ISD 728 School Board

The ISD 728 School Board held its first meeting of 2026 on Monday, January 12, and kicked things off with the annual naming of officers.

Michael Nordos, elected to the Board in 2024, was named chair. He will serve in that capacity until the 2027 organizational meeting.

“I’m looking forward to working with Chair Nordos on a very significant year in our District’s history,” said Superintendent Andy Almos. “We’ve talked throughout his first full year about the many issues facing our students, families and staff, including student safety, student achievement and facility planning. Together, we’ll continue to make ISD 728 and our communities a great place to live, work and learn.”

Member Shane Steinbrecher, the Board’s longest tenured official, will serve as Vice Chair. Steinbrecher was re-elected to the School Board in 2024 after previously serving terms from 2014-2022.

Mindy Freiberg, who was the vice chair in 2025, will serve as Board Clerk. She was elected in 2022 and is up for re-election this year.

Also up for re-election in 2026 is member Sarah Hamlin, who is serving this year as the Board Treasurer. Hamlin is finishing her first term.

Other board members were named to various committees in 2026. They include Sara Weis, former chair John Anderson (who is in the final year of his first term) and Monica Madsen. More information about those assignments, agendas and meeting minutes can be found on our website, ISD728.org/SchoolBoard

“I’m honored to serve as Chair and to work collaboratively with my fellow Board members and the District leadership,” Nordos said. “My vision is a Board that is transparent, disciplined in its governance role and focused on long-term stability and student success. I believe our work is strongest when we prioritize clear communication, fiscal responsibility and thoughtful oversight, while keeping students and classrooms at the center of every decision.”
