Spring of Champions - Two Titles, And One Magical Run for ISD 728 Schools

ISD 728 student-athletes put a cap on the 2025-2026 season with some serious hardware this spring, including a run for gold, a magical run for silver and a golfer destined for the top finishing where he belonged. 

First, the Zimmerman High 4x100 team set a school record and captured the State AA Championship in St. Michae-Albertville by blazing to a top finish in 41.66.

Also at the State Track and Field championships - Shiaflyn Cooper made it three straight, sailing to another championship in the Triple Jump. She also made the Top 8 in Long Jump.

Next, Elk River High's William Roiland posted a 2-day total of 139 (five under par) at the Class AAA State Championship to hold off Spring Lake Park's Chase Birdwell and earn the state championship. It's the first state title in golf for an individual from ERHS since 1997! 

Finally, the Rogers High School girls' flag football team, which is new to the scene, rolled all the way to the State Championship on Monday, June 9, upsetting two higher seeds along the way before falling to eventual champion Rosemount. The Royals had a miracle play in the semis to make the final, upsetting SLP in that contest. They even were just one score down in the first half of the championship, despite being the No. 13 seed, before Rosemount pulled way. 

The Star Tribune and Minnesota Vikings combined to host the championship rounds at TCO Performance Center in Eagan. You can check out the newspaper's recap of the days events on Strib Varsity.
