The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) recently announced that 93 schools representing 41 districts have been recognized for their sustained commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Additionally, five districts are also being recognized for districtwide efforts. These schools and districts have demonstrated exceptional leadership in improving school climate, engaging the community, and increasing student achievement.

Among those honored is ISD 728 - an exemplary school district for PBIS programming for multiple years running, as well as 10 of our school communities.

“We are proud to see ISD 728 and so many of our schools recognized for their commitment to PBIS,” said Superintendent Andy Almos. “This honor reflects the daily dedication of our staff, students, and families to building positive, supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. It’s not just a program, it’s part of who we are as a district.”

MDE Commissioner Willie Jett honored the schools and districts at the PBIS Summer Institute and Recognition Ceremony in August. Several presenters shared their success stories and insights on implementing PBIS.

PBIS is an evidence-based framework for preventing problem behavior, providing instruction and support for positive and cooperative behaviors, and supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students. By creating a positive school climate and culture, Jett said, PBIS has been shown to improve student outcomes, reduce disciplinary incidents, and increase student engagement.  For over two decades, Minnesota schools and districts have embraced PBIS as a strategy to create positive and supportive learning environments. This year’s honorees exemplify the dedication and perseverance required to implement and sustain PBIS over time.

To recognize these outstanding achievements, MDE Commissioner Willie Jett will honor the schools and districts at an August 14 recognition ceremony.
