ERHS: Link Leader Application
Hello, my name is Jase Meyer and I am a School Counselor, Assistant Track and Field Coach, and Link Crew Coordinator at Elk River High School (ERHS). I am reaching out in hopes to recruit Link Leaders for the 2023-2024 school year! Students who are receiving this email have been recommended to me by ERHS Staff as potential excellent mentors and leaders.
What is Link? Link is a high school transition program in which junior and senior mentors work with small groups of incoming freshman students to help make the transition into high school a fun and positive experience. This begins with training on August 9th and 10th from 9am until noon to prepare leaders for the kick off event housekeeping night on August 21st. This event is dedicated to cultivating school spirit, building relationships, navigating the layout of the building, and showing students how to be a successful high school student. Link Leaders will work in pairs with the same group of freshman (approximately 15 students) throughout their first year at ERHS. This is a great leadership opportunity for junior and senior students. If interested, please fill out the google form below. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you have.
Sincerely,
Jase Meyer

ISD728 Transportation Requests for the 23/24SY - May 2, 2023
To ensure a smooth transition in the fall, we are asking families to indicate their transportation plans for the 2023-2024 school year, by completing a “Student Transportation Information Form” to update District information. This process will not change bus riding eligibility for students but will require parents/families of students in grades kindergarten through 12 to declare how their student(s) will get to and from school.
If the form does not indicate a bus is needed, or a form is not received by June 30, 2023, students may not receive a bus assignment to start the 2023-24 school year.
To complete a request, the parent/guardian should login to Campus Parent Portal and complete the “23-24 Student Transportation Information Form.”
Upon login, navigate to the blue highlighted area on the main welcome screen or click on "Message Center" in the left hand menu. Next click on "Surveys" in the top, main part of the screen and then select a student from those listed and follow the onscreen questions. One form should be completed for each student attending ISD 728 schools.
A few reminders:
Middle School Students: Students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 will see the pick-up and drop-off location will automatically revert to the home address for the 2023-2024 school year.
High School Students: For students who will be in Grades 11 & 12 next year and need transportation, a parent or guardian must request bus transportation using this process for the 2023-2024 school year.
Transportation route information for next school year will be available in mid-August.
More information about transportation is available at www.isd728.org/Transportation along with a printable form. -

04/10/2023 ERHS: PSEO ACT Information
NOTIFICATION OF UPCOMING TESTS:
ACT
Tuesday, April 18 7:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Dear PSEO student,
The Elk River Area School District will be administering the ACT test to juniors on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 starting at 7:30AM. The ACT provides information to grade 11 students, their parents, and educators regarding the level of preparedness for postsecondary success on a nationally recognized college entrance exam.
Juniors who would normally be attending classes through Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) are considered to be students of their respective schools and have the opportunity to take the ACT or ASVAB on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 for no cost.
ACT: A college entrance exam for four year universities. The test covers English, science, math, and reading. Oftentimes 2 year colleges will take an ACT score in place of taking the Accuplacer for entrance requirements (contact your college). Typically there is a testing fee; however, this opportunity is free to all junior students!
ASVAB: A vocational aptitude test (career/skills inventory), typically used for military recruits. This is not an IQ test; results can be very helpful in a career search for post high school planning. This test is always free, upon scheduling with a coordinator.
Students who plan to take the ACT will need to create MyACT accounts using the pre assigned student code. PSEO students will be given this code in one of the following ways;
- If you have English 11 or AP Language and Composition class at ERHS you will be given this information during class the week of April 10-14.
- If you have Online728 English 11 or have an advisory class at ERHS you have been assigned to Elk Time on 4/11/23 in the little theater.
- If neither of the above options apply to your situation you will be emailed your code directly from Mrs. Shermak.
Attached is a letter you can give to your college professor(s) notifying them of the testing and requesting that they excuse you from classes on this day. In the past, we have not had any issues with professors not excusing students for testing. However, if there are concerns, please feel free to contact me at (763) 241-3400 x2144 and I will attempt to resolve any issues.
Sincerely,
Erin E. Shermak

4/10/2023 ERHS: ACT Information
Dear Parent/Guardian of a Junior Student,
Our junior students once again have the valuable opportunity to take a college entrance exam free of charge. Students can choose to take either the ACT or ASVAB on April 18th, 2023. Students were asked to indicate their plan for April 18 during their English classes this week. If your student is an online English 11 student or PSEO student they were either assigned to Elk Time on April 11 or received an email from me with this information. In addition students who are taking the ACT must complete the pre registration online at myact.org. Students were given instruction sheets with their individual student code in class, Elk Time or via email.
Below is a basic description of these two exams.
ACT: A college entrance exam for four year universities. The test covers English, science, math, and reading..
Both the ACT and ASVAB will be administered at ERHS on April 18, 2023. The tests will begin at 7:30AM, and students must be on time. Students who are taking ASVAB will not need to bring any supplies. Students who are taking the ACT must bring #2 non mechanical pencils, a calculator and a photo id (drivers license, drivers permit, school id, or passport). Students taking ACT should not bring a phone or smart watch into the testing room as it will invalidate their test. These items should be left at home, in their lockers or in their cars.
Additional information for students (including the presentation from English classes) can be found on Schoology>Class of 2024>materials>ACT. Testing room assignments will also be posted in this same schoology folder no later than April 14, 2023.
The ASVAB takes about three hours and the ACT is approximately three and a half hours. Once students have completed testing they can remain in the building to eat lunch and/or ride the bus home but they can also choose to leave the building. There will not be any afternoon classes. Students in grades 9, 10 and 12 will be distance learning on April 18, 2023.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

ERHS 2/14/2023 Seniors Eligible to take ACT
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
The Minnesota Legislature has mandated that all school districts in the state provide one opportunity for students to take a college entrance exam, during the traditional school day, beginning in their junior year. Although the Minnesota Department of Education does not provide full funding for this opportunity, Independent School District 728 feels that the information gained from the ACT test is invaluable to students and has made the decision to allocate funds to ensure that all eligible students have an opportunity to participate in this test; at no cost to the student or family.
According to our records, your child has not yet participated in a state-mandated offering of a college entrance exam. Based on this information, we would like to extend an invitation to your child to participate in the district-administered ACT test on April 18, 2023. Participating in this testing opportunity is optional and will not impact your son or daughter's graduation requirements in any way. If your child chooses not to participate, they will be provided with digital learning opportunities just like all other seniors in the district.
If you would like to have your child participate in the district-administered ACT test in April, please complete this survey by Friday, March 10, 2023.
Thank you,
