Welcome to VandenBerge Middle School (VMS) and the 2020-21 school year. My name is Dr. Marcia Welch and I am honored to be a part of the awesome Elk River community and the VMS outstanding team of educators giving me the opportunity to work with our great students. Thanks to all the hard work, dedication, and support of the parents, students, and staff, VMS is an excellent school that meets the unique needs of its adolescent learners through its advisory program, interdisciplinary teaming/teaching, WEB, PBIS, flexible schedule for remediation and enrichments, plus our exploratory program. Our phenomenal staff is committed to keeping a safe and orderly environment where students can learn and excel.

Dr. Marcia Welch, Principal
Dr. Marcia Welch has 28 years experience as an educator with 7 years at VMS as head principal. Previously, 13 years as an assistant principal in Anoka-Hennepin and Elk River Area School Districts.
Dr. Welch's first position was as a middle school English teacher at Coon Rapids Middle School in Anoka-Hennepin. She was first hired in the Elk River Area School District as an assistant principal at Rogers Middle School, but spent the last nine years at Elk River High School as an assistant principal. One of those years, she split time between Elk River High School and VandenBerge as assistant principal.
Dr. Welch has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, a Middle School Licensure from St. Cloud State, a Master of Education degree from St. Mary’s University, a K-12 Administrative Licensure from St. Mary’s University, and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from St. Cloud State.
