After a couple of years of so many “first” we’d all like to forget, the Rogers, Zimmerman and Elk River football teams provided a “first” we will always remember.

The Royals, Thunder and Elks, respectively, each captured Section Championships, won their quarterfinal game and played under the lights at US Bank Stadium on back-to-back days in the State Semifinals. The Elks broke through and won their semifinal and, eventually, their second Class 5A Championship in six years, but it was the collective community cheering on all 3 squads – and the teams cheering on one another at times – that we will all cherish.
