Southwest Food Service Excellence Takes Over ISD 728 Food Service

ISD 728 announced earlier this summer it will be contracting with a new food service provider beginning in 2017-2018.

Southwest Food Service Excellence will now begin providing nutritional lunches and breakfasts for students around the school district.

Here's a letter the new vendor sent out to families Wednesday, July 26:

We hope everyone is having a relaxing summer vacation and is excited to return to school. Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) has been working hard over the summer months to add new items to each school and wanted to share some of the  changes with everyone, along with a reminder of all we offer daily. 

Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) became the new food service management team at ISD 728 on July 1, 2017. As a result of this partnership, we are excited to announce the following changes:              

  • Fresh fruit and vegetable salad bars available daily at lunch. This option is free for students who purchase a meal; however there is also an a la carte option available.

  • The nutritional breakdown will be provided for all menu items on the ISD 728 website.

  • The Roving Chef program,  a culinary program that teaches students proper food safety, cooking techniques, gives instruction on how to build a healthy meal, and provides nutrition education to selected students.

  • Nutritious meals offered daily.

  • A variety of entrées offered from the following concepts:

    • Taco Street — Southwestern foods with option to build one’s own tacos and burritos.

    • Luigi’s Eatery — Italian style foods including pizza.

    • Gourmet Greens — Fresh salads with a variety of chicken, tuna, and beef.

    • Traditional Cuisine — Home cooking traditional choices such as rotisserie chicken.

    • Delicatessen — Sandwiches and wraps that can be made with fresh baked breads.

    • Red Dragon — Asian cuisine such as orange chicken.

  • Students are encouraged to try something new and eat in the cafeteria with their peers.

  • A selection of 3 is offered daily for Elementary aged students to choose from consisting of the menu items listed above. Both Middle Schools and High Schools will have 6 options daily.

  • Students with an outstanding balance will be allowed to use cash to purchase a la carte items. Unless otherwise noted from parents, money on students’ accounts  will be applied to meals.
