Six ISD 728 Teachers Among Nominees for Education Minnesota Teacher of the Year

toty-2018 Education Minnesota has announced that The 2018 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be chosen from a field of 167 candidates – including six teachers nominated from ISD 728. These candidates have accepted their nominations and completed the required materials to become eligible for the honor.

The six ISD 728 teachers are:

  • Sara Frater - second grade teacher at Prairie View Elementary School, Otsego
  • Scott Glew - social studies teacher at Salk Middle School, Elk River
  • Tina Kryduba - art teacher at Zimmerman Middle/High School
  • Kim Johnson - second grade teacher at Prairie View Elementary School, Otsego
  • Derek Wold - science teacher at VandenBerge Middle School, Elk River
  • Tina Ostroot - kindergarten teacher at Prairie View Elementary School, Otsego

 

“I could not be more proud of our six honorees, and of our entire staff within ISD 728. Their passion, commitment to all children, and focus on continuous growth make ISD 728 a wonderful place to work and learn,” said ISD 728 Dr. Daniel Bittman, Superintendent.

 

This year’s program will name the 54th Minnesota Teacher of the Year, celebrating the tradition of excellence in teaching in Minnesota. Candidates include prekindergarten through 12th-grade and Adult Basic Education teachers, from public or private schools.

"What a wonderful honor and testament to their hard work, and the great things happening in classrooms throughout ISD 728,” stated Mr. Shane Steinbrecher, ISD 728 School Board Chair.  Dr. Bittman further commented, “I am thankful for each and every staff member throughout the organization and am honored to be on their team as they educate, inspire and empower all learners."

 

The 2017 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Radisson Blu Mall of America Hotel in Bloomington, Minnesota. Over the coming weeks, a 25-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semi-finalists and finalists.

“Our nominees have made us very proud,” said Dr. Jana Hennen-Burr, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. “It’s an incredible accomplishment to have six people nominated.”
