School Board Update: Back To School is a Season of Change by Christi Tullbane

christi

This is such an exciting time for teachers, students and parents — Welcome Back to School!

Some students have moved on to start new schools and many will try new things.  In my case, I have two daughters starting in their new schools as a 6th grader in middle school and a 9th grader in high school. My 3rd grade daughter feels that she has the more significant change because her classroom is now all the way upstairs of the same elementary school. In any case, something is new for all of us!

We have a new superintendent, Dr. Dan Bittman, who is known for being an innovative, successful leader. Dr. Bittman has a strong background in education and leadership which is why he was given the honor of “Superintendent of the Year” in 2016. Dr. Bittman has already met a lot of families and community members in our school district. He is already very active within our communities, advocating for our schools.

New lunches are here! Southwest Foodservice Excellence’s program is new in the district. Southwest was chosen after a comprehensive thorough process involving many stakeholders. Quality meals and service remain as priorities.

We are in this school year together and appreciate the collaboration and engagement with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community members, etc. In ISD 728, we are always striving to fulfill our core values, which are:

  • All people have value
  • Valuing and respecting differences strengthen the individual and community
  • People thrive when they feel connected, supported and affirmed
  • Everyone can learn
  • Hope inspires and empowers
  • Lifelong learning is essential for personal growth
  • Change provides opportunity for growth

Many of us who serve in the district are parents with children who attend schools in ISD 728. We have children of all ages and with different needs. The personal attention provided by all staff is what makes our school district thrive. We enjoy having these conversations with everyone.

Let's take a breath during this new transition, and celebrate everyday because every person in ISD 728 cares about our children.
