August 21, 2020: Message from the Superintendent: Back to School

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Community Members:

Thank you for your continued support and engagement, we are proud to work with you as we navigate the pandemic and provide quality opportunities for our children. After much work and collaboration, we are proud to announce that we will be able to begin the 2020-2021 school year in:

  • FACE-TO-FACE MODEL for early childhood and elementary students

  • HYBRID MODEL for middle and high school students

These models, which will be implemented throughout the school district, are supported by the local data, public health officials, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health.

Early Childhood and Elementary School Students

ISD 728 plans to reopen and welcome all early childhood and elementary students back into our classrooms for the 2020-2021 school year Monday through Friday, beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020. However, we will be routinely reminding our students, staff, and families to be mindful of key preventive measures.

Middle and High School Students (Secondary)

ISD 728 plans to reopen and welcome all middle and high school students back into our classrooms for the 2020-2021 school year in the so-called “hybrid model,” which will limit the overall number of people in school facilities and on transportation to 50 percent maximum occupancy. Social distancing with at least six (6) feet between people must occur at all times, and this model will serve as a bridge, we hope, to eventual in-person learning.

In this model, middle and high school students will participate in a two-day in-person model, with three days of distance learning per week on dates those students are not in our buildings. Hybrid model assignments for A/B schedules for each student will be announced via CAMPUS messenger no later than August 31, 2020.

In addition to information above, the video below provides information about the communication that was sent out Monday with details about our instructional models, health screening and expectations, a reminder to view the District website for up-to-date information, and questions to some of the most commonly asked questions.

The past several months have been an incredibly challenging time for the entire ISD 728 community. I want to thank you for your patience, support, and engagement along the way. We look forward to another exciting year, and remain committed to our values, mission, and vision.

Sincerely,
Dan Bittman
ISD 728 Superintendent
